So, last we spoke I told you about two babies being born into our local JAG family. I showed you Baby Liam’s quilt, but neglected to show Baby Olivia’s. This one is called Blue Carolina Starburst and it was so simple and quick to make that a beginner would have great results.
You can find the free instructions at http://fortworthfabricstudio.blogspot.kr/2017/10/blue-carolina-starburst-quilt-free.html
I loved the colors in the example and set off to find fabrics as close to the ones used as I could. I was amazed that for who knows how long after the original quilt was made, way over here in Korea I found two of the fabrics used! I found the two middle blues to be good substitutes. I also changed the boarder from blue to pink, because I’m such a rebel.
This pattern is made up of squares. Some stay square and others get sewn crosswise, cut apart and opened up back into squares. I’m not going to explain each step, because those are very well explained in the free instructions. I just wanted to share how mine came together.
The first simple step was to sew squares into half triangle squares. Like I said, simple, but still I had to mess something up. I somehow managed to flip one of the dark blue squares right side up before sewing and cutting. Once opened I had a wrong sided triangle. Oh well, quick fix.
Anyways, those squares got added to new squares.
Then other blocks got made using the same square and half triangle square style pieces.
Those blocks were joined together and a border was added.
It was then quilted and bound.
And there you have it. A super quick and easy baby quilt.
I love the gradation of blue from the center outwards. I think it would be fun to make one with bight oranges and yellows to look like the sun shining.
Turns out that Baby Olivia’s big brother had a quilt made for him as a baby and it had bunnies on it also. Kind of fun that I couldn’t find the right blue and ended up with the bunny print.
Hope y’all are having a great weekend! Be blessed!
