I can’t believe I haven’t gotten around to showing this blanket to you yet. I made this almost a year ago! The plan was to upload the pictures and then work on the post while on vacation back home in Washington over the summer. I took the pictures on my phone, sent them to my e-mail and thought I was good to go. Well, once in the states I checked my e-mail and they weren’t there. Since I was now in the states my Korean phone wouldn’t work, so I couldn’t resend. It didn’t really matter anyways because I was in the Olympic Rainforest where internet isn’t really the most reliable and with my computer it was non-existent. So now, 9 months later I’m finally getting my act together and posting it.
Ben had a Captain working for him called Mo. Obviously, not his full name. Anyways, Mo is from Louisiana and his wife is Korean, from Seoul. A country boy and a city girl. He shared this story with me, while his wife laughed and smacked his arm the whole time.
When they first met he had told her that he was from the country. She, being from the extremely large city of Seoul, pictured a medium sized town as the country. So when he took her home to meet his family for the first time she was in a bit of a panic. After leaving the town of Natchitoches and driving about an hour on a dirt road she exclaimed, “You said you were from the country, not the jungle!”
Having lived in both Louisiana and Seoul I could see her point.
When they announced they were having a baby I knew I had to make a “jungle” quilt.
I found the idea for this quilt at https://suzyquilts.com/weekend-quilting-book-tour/.
I made a trip to Happy Quilt. If you have ADD or OCD it’s not the place for you.
I found a fat quarter pack of some really sweet fabrics. I didn’t know if they were having a boy or a girl so I picked out the more neutral fabrics from the set.
Then I found the most perfect “jungle” print for the back. With the addition of another red I already had I was ready to get started.
There are no instructions on the inspiration site, but it is very simple to figure out. It’s made up of half-square triangle blocks. A lot of them. To make so many of them quickly I used this trick.
I cut 8 inch squares of white and my color, put them right sides together and marked an X on my white fabric.
I sewed a 1/4 inch seam on both sides of the marked lines.
Then I cut on the X, which left four triangles. I then cut those triangles in half leaving 8 smaller triangle sections.
Those were all opened up and ironed.
After making 11 from various reds and 11 from various blues it was time to put the blocks together. First side to side, then top to bottom. I needed 21 of each of these finished blocks for both colors. By using the pieces from the 8 inch square technique there was one extra block from both colors because it will make 22 and I only needed 21.
After all blocks were made they were arranged.
White blocks were added to the empty areas. Seeing as how I made this 9 months ago, I really can’t remember the size of the white blocks. But all you have to do it measure the finished half-square triangle block and make them the same size.
Here it is all sewn together and finished.
Complete with “jungle” print on the back.
Hope you enjoyed seeing how the Duck, Duck, Goose blanket comes together!

I lose track of time in this shop. Ben has sent me a message last time I went asking me if I got lost.
