Are you ready for the surprise I told you about in Miss Mousie’s Dresser Part 1?
If you haven’t read Part 1, let me get you up to speed. I recently bought an old falling apart dresser at a yard sale. It came with three baby mice in the top drawer. The whole thing needed a lot of work rebuilding, sanding and painting. This is what I started with.
This is what it looked like at the end of Part 1. The gray is actually much darker than in this picture and doesn’t really blend in with my wall.
It’s back to usable condition and freshly painted, but I like to add surprises to my makeovers. I wanted the mice to be remembered. So I thought it would be fun to paint some in the drawer they were found in.
Only one problem. I have no idea how to draw or paint a mouse. I went online and eventually found a Craftsy.com tutorial on how to draw a mouse. She had a picture of four mice that was styled exactly as I was wanting. I just had to leave one out since I needed a picture with three mice. I drew her example onto a piece of paper and copied it onto my drawer with pencil.
I then added the pink with a Crayola colored pencil and used a Close to My Heart scrap booking water color pencil to add the gray to the mice and a bit of shadow. Water color pencils are so easy to use. You can color with them then paint over it with water to get the water color painted look or you can scribble a patch of color onto paper and use the watered paintbrush to turn it into a usable paint. I chose the scribble then paint approach.
Because of the use of a pencil the picture was very smeary and I needed to get it covered before anything happened to it. It took just a couple coats of Krylon clear coat spray to get it protected.
So now I have a freshly made over dresser with some sweet baby mice in the drawer.
But wait there’s more! The dresser looks fine, but it needs a little something to make it a more interesting, to give it a pop of “Wow, that’s pretty!”
Come back next time to see what was done to the outside!
